Vauxhall is at a crossroads. With 16,000 new homes and 20,000-25,000 new jobs forecasted for the area, dramatic change is on the horizon. But how can a place, who’s name conjures thoughts of car manufacturing and railway stations (at least when speaking Russian), change from a place of movement to a destination. FCB Studios with Grant Associates and Martin Stockley Associates looked at Vauxhall’s past to inform a strategy for its future.
The future of Vauxhall relies upon a successful synthesis of the play and adventure of the historic pleasure gardens, optimism and democratic principles of the mid-20th century and a modern understanding of how people (not just vehicles) move in the capital.
Our proposal looked at range of interventions from quick wins to long term strategies. The interventions looked to enhance community, connections and spaces that would create a 24 hour energy that builds on the existing community while invite new visitors to the area.
