A high quality leisure centre providing a range of facilities, including a 25 metre 6 lane swimming pool and fitness centre, for the community of Longwell Green on the outskirts of Bristol.

The site is bounded on its south-west and north-west sides by housing, and on its south-east and north-east sides by a road servicing commercial premises. The prominence of the site required a scheme with a strong visual presence, whilst also respecting the interests of its residential neighbours. The layout is clear and welcoming, and the use of natural light and views has been fully exploited.

Sustainable, natural materials have been used to create a contemporary response to the brief and site.

The new landscape creates a strong individual identity marrying the contemporary with the former rural character of the site. Incorporating a courtyard, garden, fields and a woodland belt, the landscape scheme makes reference to the farm which previously occupied this site.
