Vita Student at Circle Square is luxury student housing that provides the very highest quality serviced accommodation on two plots of the new central Manchester neighbourhood. FCBStudios are working on the design of the plot bounded by Charles Street on the north edge of Circle Square, which will complement the recently completed Vita building in function and form.
Each of the upper 16 floors will be made up of 23 comfortable 16.5 sqm studios, with double bed, kitchen, shower pod and study space. Shared between these studios will be a communal living and dining space with a floor to ceiling glazed bay window. At ground level, the residents' hub is a subtle mix of both quiet and active zones which provide space for study, a meeting place and a welcoming area to relax and be at home in.
Clad in earthy-purple engobe brick slips Vita Student will have a colour, scale and texture that echoes the neighbouring historic buildings bridging the faience facades of the new residential buildings with the brick facades. The main elevation is divided into three vertical visual components, revealing the living areas on each floor and the studios on either side.
Vita Student will be completed ready for the start of the 2019 academic year.
Taking inspiration from the both the faience and brick facades of adjacent historic buildings, an engobe brick slip has been chosen for the facades. As an essay in clinker brickwork, the facades are treated with fine modules, textured patterning, regular coursing, projecting coursing and lined reveals up to the second floor.
The engobe finish will catch the light in different conditions, and the clinker appearance will give a lively colour variety to the brickwork. The building will be an ‘earthy purple’, made up of burnt blues, reds and greys and will contrast with the ‘ivory white’ buildings in the centre of Circle Square.
