Client:
YTL

Location:
Bristol

Brabazon is a new 142 ha neighbourhood for Bristol, on the historic Filton Airfield site. The masterplan outlines a high density, sustainable, new city district, with the YTL Arena Bristol at its heart.

FCBStudios' revised masterplan has an increased density and variety of uses, to make the most of the potential and location of the site. It accommodates the people flows and transport demands related to the Arena, as well as the expectations and safety of visitors and residents.

The low carbon masterplan responds to the housing crisis, the UK levelling up agenda and the climate emergency. It caters to critical demands for more housing, more urban living and more employment, all on a large and well-connected brownfield site.

Brabazon will provide up to 6500 homes - of which 1000+ will be affordable - three new schools, a health centre and community facilities and a potential university campus, with sufficient commercial space to support over 30,000 jobs.

Planned on a framework of 15-minute neighbourhoods, the masterplan’s sense of place and identity is shaped by its public spaces. Two kilometres of pedestrian and cycle routes link a series of linear parks and gardens, as well as a destination park, sports hub and central, landmark lake. The phased growth of Brabazon is linked to key sustainable travel milestones to lower car usage.

Brabazon Housing phase 1 is currently on site, and due to complete in 2023.
