Bath Western Riverside Masterplan

In Brief

Client:
Crest Nicholson Plc

Location:
Bath

Construction value:
£40,000,000

This major new residential development in Bath’s city conservation area combines the character of the Georgian city with the industrial heritage of the site. After 25 years of failed attempts, this was the first scheme to receive outline planning permission in this highly sensitive historic location.

We were appointed to prepare an outline planning application for up to 2,200 dwellings, together with significant new public spaces including a new riverside landscape park, on a key 14 hectare city centre brownfield site in the World Heritage City of Bath.

The first phase of construction was completed in 2013, providing 299 homes, of which 121 are designated Affordable Housing. A landscaped riverside garden and walkway opened in 2012 and the final phases of construction are currently underway.

This scheme shows how good contemporary architecture can work successfully in a historic setting, showcasing Bath as a vibrant city and continuing its tradition of exemplary urban development into the 21st century.
