The FCBStudios charities group works with the Feilden Foundation to provide pro-bono design work for community-based building projects in East Africa and the UK.

The practice supports many charities for causes that promote equality, social justice and education.

Research often overlaps with this voluntary work, for example, FCBStudios led a team exploring ecobricks to make furniture as an installation at Forest of Imagination. As part of the project, the team delivered 4 workshops in local primary schools and scout groups to raise awareness of plastic waste, recycling and to experiment with 3d structures.

The same technology is now being used by a team of volunteer Architects from our London studio in a community project for the Feilden Foundation in Zanzibar, East Africa.

The Feilden Foundation was set up in memory of Richard Feilden - an indefatigable ‘can do’ architect and champion of education for all. The Feilden Foundation seeks to use its resources to empower communities. It aims to improve both the educational infrastructure and the teaching and learning opportunities that are available for children and young people in Africa, which will serve as exemplar models of practice to others.

The Feilden Foundation is a network of professionals, with expertise in the built environment and education sectors who provide skills and transfer knowledge to enhance educational infrastructure across East Africa. Its work is delivered in partnership with like-minded organisations and individuals who share our values and aspirations to collaborate on projects.
