A FACULTY BUILDING THAT WILL MAKE A POSITIVE CONTRIBUTION TO THE CITY, ITS STAFF AND STUDENTS
The building brings together the Faculty of Business and Law and the Faculty of Humanities and Social Sciences in one shared building that will offer inspirational environments not only for working, teaching and learning but for collaboration, innovation and interaction.
A careful balance of environmental, economic and social aspirations have driven its form and function. At the intersection of city and university, it will act as a new front door to the university, that is open to all.
This new building will become a landmark in Portsmouth and a symbol of our city's commitment to learning and teaching.
Professor Graham Galbraith, Vice-Chancellor of the University of Portsmouth
SPACES FOR LEARNING, FOR ALL
Academic workspaces are focussed around two triple-height spaces. Each one has a large ocular window with fantastic views out to the park, city and the sea. They are naturally lit and ventilated rooms and planted with trees and plants, bringing a sense of wellbeing in.
Providing some of the largest teaching spaces on campus, the building will house two 250-seat and a 500-seat lecture theatre at the lower levels of the building.
At ground floor level, a ‘Market Hall’ can be used by the University and the City to gather for events. At roof level, a double-height destination restaurant and roof terrace will be open to the public.
