Unity Place

Following on from last week's success at the British Homes Awards where Unity Place won the Affordable Housing category, this development in Brent, London, has been shortlisted for the RIBA Neave Brown Award.

The award is given in honour of modernist architect and social housing pioneer, Neave Brown (1926-2018) recognising the UK's best new affordable housing. The project delivers 235 socially rented affordable homes, designed in collaboration with Alison Brooks Architects and Gort Scott, and developed with the local community. It forms part of a wider South Kilburn regeneration programme, aiming to address economic, physical and social issues in the neighbourhood and showcases how well-designed, accessible housing can address the demands of contemporary urban life.

Jury Chair and 2023 Neave Brown Award for Housing winner, Astrid Smitham, said: “At a time when the UK sets out to build 1.5 million new homes, this shortlist shows the importance of great partnerships between clients and architects in delivering housing of the very highest standard, that everyone deserves... these projects show how the next wave of UK home building can help individuals and communities to thrive.”

The award winner will be announced at this years Stirling Prize ceremony in October.
