Temple Quarter Enterprise Campus Bristol Tops Out
16th September 2024
Temple Quarter Enterprise Campus is the most significant development in the University of Bristol's recent history. It will soon be home to 4,600 students, 650 staff, and key research institutes, creating opportunities for all of Bristol to engage with world-class research, education, and civic programmes.
We’re pleased to announce that the new Campus has officially topped out, a landmark project not only honours the site’s rich history but also represents a major investment in the future of Bristol and its people.
Professor Evelyn Welch, Vice-Chancellor and President of the University of Bristol, said: “After many years in the planning the biggest innovation footprint ever made in our city is 1/3 of the way there. It’s great to see how much progress has been made over the last 18 months on site with the new building really taking shape before our eyes. The Temple Quarter Enterprise Campus will be a major new landmark for Bristol and a real catalyst for innovation not just for the city and region, but also nationally. It is being carefully constructed to meet the needs and nurture the aspirations of our students, staff and partners across the city and the wider region.
“It provides outstanding facilities to build on our collective strengths in research, innovation, learning and societal change. By attracting top talent, fostering cutting-edge multidisciplinary research, nurturing start-ups and entrepreneurship, and providing opportunities to work with students and develop talent pipelines, we will attract more international partners to Bristol and help to create a thriving ecosystem that drives economic growth to really compete on the global stage.”
The site has a fascinating, many-layered history, having once been home to a cattle market, colourworks factory, and Royal Mail sorting office—and even hosting illegal raves during its derelict years. Regeneration and reinvention have always been central to its story, and this latest iteration continues that legacy, transforming it into a dynamic resource for the community.
Designed with the city and its people at its heart, the campus will create new public spaces, enhance urban connectivity, and provide accessible facilities for everyone. It will serve as a hub for collaboration, innovation, and learning—driving partnerships that benefit not only the university but also the wider city. The campus will be open and inclusive, fostering community engagement and making a positive contribution to Bristol’s regeneration.
This project exemplifies the University’s commitment to creating a lasting, positive impact for the city and its residents, fostering a space where the past and future meet to serve the community.
We look forward to sharing more progress soon.
