Shrewsbury Flaxmill Maltings shortlisted for RIBA Reinvention Award

18th September 2024

Shrewsbury Flaxmill Maltings, recognised as the industrial forerunner of modern skyscrapers, has been shortlisted for the RIBA Reinvention Award. The adaptive repair and reuse of one of the most important buildings of the industrial revolution, has delivered a low-carbon, mixed used development and acted as a catalyst for the economic regeneration of this area of Shrewsbury.

The award, which will be announced at this years RIBA Stirling Prize ceremony in October, recognises buildings that have been creatively reused to improve their environmental, social, or economic sustainability– increasing the longevity and energy efficiency of existing buildings and reducing the need for demolition and new construction.

It has been an incredible year, so far, for this project and the wider team, including Historic England and Shropshire Council, which has already won ten awards, including two AJ Retrofit & Reuse Award's last week.
