MADE YOU LOOK. MADE YOU STARE.
What do we want – and what have we come to expect - when we visit a museum?
In Made You Look, Made You Stare, one of our former Partners, Clare Hughes, set off on a Winston Churchill Travelling Fellowship in search of some of the world’s most inspiring museums. She is looking for what helps us to truly connect with what we see, whether the built form that houses the exhibits, the power of storytelling and the spoken word, or the ingenuity of technology.
Through tinkering at San Franscisco’s Exploratorium, looking at design through the eyes of an eight-year-old or considering the language of commemoration at the 9/11 Memorial in New York, she examines what makes a museum unique, exciting, enjoyable - and useful. Ultimately, she asks, do museums have the power to make the world a better place?
