Rowena Creagh PhD partnership with University of Liverpool

Rowena's PhD research , in partnership with the University of Liverpool and the Low Carbon Eco-Inventory aims to create a new set of emissions factors for post-war buildings, to discover the embedded carbon for a typical UK post-war building and to help inform the industry of the benefits of re-use and retrofitting heritage buildings.  This work will contribute to existing conversations within the industry on the benefits of reusing historic buildings and will create a space for meaningful discussions to take place regarding the carbon impact of the re-use and retrofit of existing buildings.

This work will help enable the true benefit of retrofit, from a carbon perspective, to be represented. Design advice and calculation of historic carbon impacts of site development, and the potential benefits in retention of existing structures and reuse of existing materials will help establish robust site appraisals to reduce carbon impacts.
