Alexandra Palace Celebrates 80th anniversary of world's first public television broadcastAlexandra Palace Celebrates 80th anniversary of world's first public television broadcast
On 2nd November 1936 the former BBC Studios at Alexandra Palace gave birth to a technology that was to change the world – high definition television. Today celebrates its 80th anniversary.
FCBStudios are leading the design team for a major project at Alexandra Palace. We are undertaking significant refurbishment and repair of the East Wing at this listed public building. The East Wing which, despite being partially derelict, contains the former BBC Studios, the very popular Ice Rink, Victorian Theatre and the glazed East Court.
We are working with Alexandra Palace to create a new visitor experience, by using their historic collections and the story of the earliest BBC transmissions as a foundation to create a new type of experience. These stories will be augmented into a significant changing display, exploring the contemporary world of transmission and reception, which will provide a compelling 21st century context for many visitors to this important site.
