Ditherington Flax Mill, the world’s oldest iron framed building has been granted £12.8M in Heritage Lottery Funding, the largest award outside the capital.
FCBStudios architectural proposals will transform the two hundred year old factory, described by English Heritage as ‘the grandfather of the modern skyscraper’, into a 21st century work and leisure facility.
The newly renovated mill will serve the local community and attract tourism through its connections with Ironbridge.
Work on site is due to start in January 2013, with phase one due for completion towards the end of 2015.
